KAJIMA-FOMLIG AI Challenges (Sponsored by KAJIMA Corporation)
The aim of this challenge is to foster interdisciplinary collaboration, innovation, and practical problem-solving skills among students through a project-based learning framework. By bringing together students from different countries and engaging with Kajima Corporation Technical Research Institute Singapore (KaTRIS) as an industry partner, the challenge seeks to bridge academic knowledge and real-world applications.
Two types of challenges are proposed at 4FOMLIG:
Challenge 1: Automatic extraction of geotechnical foundation data (graduate/PhD level)
Challenge 2: Developing a method for identifying expansive soil (undergraduate level)

FOMLIG Student Challenge (Sponsored by Shimizu Corporation)
This year, the 4FOMLIG student competition, titled as TBM Motion Prediction Challenge, invites international participants to develop predictive models for the future motion of tunnel boring machines (TBMs), with a particular focus on yaw and pitch prediction. Using simulation-based datasets provided by Shimizu Corporation, teams will design machine learning, statistical, or deep learning models capable of accurately forecasting TBM movement under unseen operating conditions.
The challenge is jointly organized by the FOMLIG Council, 4FOMLIG, Shimizu Corporation and The Institute of Statistical Mathematics (Japan) to foster innovation at the intersection of geotechnical engineering and artificial intelligence. Participants will submit reproducible open-source solutions that will be evaluated on a hidden test set, with the winning team receiving a cash award and the opportunity to present their work at the 4FOMLIG Workshop in Seoul.
